Kingdom Hitting

Some would say baseball is life. I would say baseball has many correlations to life. I believe we are here on earth; in this life, for the glory of God. God said, “Everyone who is called by My Name, whom I created for My Glory, whom I formed and made Isaiah” 43:7. I would like to correlate what our focus should be in this life, to the mental approach of a batter.

God should be our focus and our anchor in this life and by believing that Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again, will save anyone who chooses to believe in Him. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have ever lasting life” John 3:16. God is perfect and holy and can’t be near sin, which we have. But by believing Jesus died, rose again three days later, admitting we are sinners and by asking Jesus into our heart. God now see’s Jesus’ blood covering us and not our sin anymore. The fact I believe in what Jesus did on the cross and by asking Jesus to be Lord of my life means: “He dictates every decision I make. “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that He rose from the dead you will be saved Romans 10:9. Lord, in Merriam-Webster’s dictionary means: One having power and authority over others. This keeps my life in God’s will. I wont go to heaven because I tried hard to be a good person, or that I did 51% good and 49% bad. No, No, it’s the free gift of salvation that God offers through is Son Jesus Christ. Following Christ and having faith in Him we can receive eternal life. Our job is to share this message of true Love, The Gospel or good news of what Christ did on the cross. Jesus is God and He is my anchor, my only focus. Jesus said, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all you heart with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” Mark 12:30. “But Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you” Mark 6:33. Jesus is and should be our number one focus and the rest of life will be taken care of.

Now to tie in baseball with Gods Kingdom it becomes clear we need a focus when grabbing a bat and walking up to the plate. When at the plate we need an approach that will help us get the best out of our abilities. Some people think they can walk up, dig in see ball hit ball and react. Eventually a good pitcher will eat him up at will. When it comes to having an approach at the plate we need our mind to be clear, focused and confident. We need to have one approach and be specific about what pitch we are looking for and what we are trying to do with the ball. This keeps us focus and not aimlessly swinging at all the pitches that look good. In relation to baseball, life is similar so if we don’t believe in anything we will fall for everything. In this case the pitcher is the enemy if you haven’t noticed. Sorry Pitchers! God still loves you. By being focused on one pitch in a specific location will able me to see deception early out of his hand. The more I study and understand the pitchers tendencies and by understanding my own strengths as a hitter, I start to become a tough out. In essence the more I realize what God has given me through Jesus, the tougher for the devil to deceive me. The faith and knowledge through Christ Jesus will equip me to determine the truth. Everyday there are truths and lies thrown in my direction. By knowing the “truth”, Gods word “The Bible” and listening to the Holy Spirit, I will not be fooled by the lies that are wrapped with truth. Remember it only takes a little deception to make a lie. “Until we attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind and doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes Ephesians 4:13-14. If we aren’t grounded in the doctrine of Jesus Christ we will fall for all the world’s random, hopeless religions, fads, products, and substances. They all lead to death and will not help or fulfill the void that’s missing in a non-Christ believer. The slider that looks good and starts down the middle but ends up outside and under the knees is still a weak groundball to the second baseman. Or the two-seam fastball that starts on the plate inside but runs to far in and jams me. They all look good and start out with mostly truth and hope when released, but at the last second changed course and get me to bite. Those pitches didn’t have my best interest. All those pitches lead to outs. Look at children when they are little, they believe everything told to them cause they don’t know any better. Up until we find God and believe in his Son Jesus, we are like spiritual children looking and believing the enticing deceitfulness the world throws at us. If I am not looking for that fastball, middle away and trying to drive it through the middle of the field and react to pitches inside I am not ready and have a big disadvantage in this battle.

Life is for God and the spreading of Jesus Christ’s message. I feel there are many correlations to what baseball is and what a follower of Jesus looks like. This game wasn’t randomly created by chance. It was invented to portray examples of life for the millions of people who watch this game and play it. This game is in every living room for 160 plus days out of the year. God knew that, and wants to use this game for His glory. We are here for Him and I believe God likes baseball and surely He loves us. He doesn’t want any of us to perish; He made us, and also gave us free will. So with this free will, believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose again, make him Lord of your life, turn from your sin and ask Him in your heart. He will make you more like Him if you let Him. God bless you and Jesus loves you.
